Internship
This educational activity can be carried out in two ways:
- Internal Internship: conducted at one of the research laboratories of the Department of Chemistry or Departments connected to the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Milan. This path requires the supervision of a professor or researcher from the Department;
- External Internship: conducted at other university structures (either within the University of Milan or at another university), public bodies, or highly qualified public and private non-profit research centers equipped with adequate facilities. This path also requires the supervision of a professor from the Department of Chemistry acting as an internal tutor (or supervisor). They will work alongside an external company tutor proposed by the hosting organization.
For more information on the types of experimental theses, please consult the Regulations.
Requirements and Deadlines
- Eligibility: students can apply for admission to the Thesis Laboratory starting from the end of the second semester of their first year;
- Language Requirement: to enter the Thesis Laboratory, students must have already obtained recognition for a B2 level proficiency in English;
- Start Dates: entry into the thesis laboratory takes place on the first day of July, October, December, and March;
- Application Deadline: admission requests must be submitted by filling out the Application Form (https://forms.office.com/e/wwfp0PFkKd) by the first day of the month preceding the desired start month. The application is subject to subsequent approval by the Teaching Board.
To carry out an internal Thesis Laboratory, the student must first secure the availability of their chosen professor. Upon request, the Thesis Committee offers orientation services to help students select a thesis topic by providing information on the research fields active within the department. The available thesis topics are published and updated on the department website by the Thesis Committee at the beginning of each academic year. After agreeing on availability with a professor, students must submit their formal entry request to the Thesis Laboratory following the instructions detailed above.
Students participating in the Erasmus+ programme can do their internship abroad. In this case, the student need not acquire 126 credits before departure, but can acquire them abroad. The procedures are presented every year with the Erasmus calls for applications; for further information, please contact the Chair of the Erasmus Committee, Prof. Emma Gallo.
An internship (or traineeship) is a training experience encompassing different options:
- Students can participate in curricular internship/work placement
- Those who have completed their study programme not more than 12 months ago can do extracurricular internships/traineeships.
The Cosp manages setup procedures for internships in public and private companies and institutions aimed at enrolled students, graduands and postgraduates.
How to find a stage opportunity
Students can either select one of the available internship positions on the University noticeboard or find an internship by themselves.
In any case they must follow procedures established by the Study and Career Guidance Centre (COSP).
